55+ Easy Healthy Meal Prep Ideas for The Week

60 Quick and Easy Healthy Meal Prep Ideas for the Week (30 Minutes or Less)

Meal prepping with a busy schedule can seem practically impossible so I’m hoping these healthy meal prep ideas for the week will help free up your time and make things a little easier for you.

If you think about it, why else would anyone bother to meal prep?

The value lies in the fact that it could potentially be a huge timesaver and free you up for other activities.

Some other added benefits of prepping your meals ahead of time is it could also save you some money and help you stay on track with a healthy diet.

I’ll be the first to admit personal experience shows that is much easier said than done.

Healthy meal prep does require plenty of self discipline at the start but I can also guarantee once you get the ball rolling it’s a lot easier and you’ll actually enjoy the process.

It ultimately comes down to planning well ahead of time and finding some strategies that work for you.

For that reason I want to begin with a few meal prep tips that’ll make you successful for the work week ahead and any other time you have a thousand things to do.

Keys to Successful Meal Prep for the Week

Healthy meal prep begins with setting yourself up for success.

You’ve probably embraced the idea but as I mentioned, meal prep can sometimes be overwhelming even with the best of intentions.

Let’s take a look then at a few things you can do to prevent it from feeling like another chore.

1 - Understand your "WHY"

This is one of those of those steps a lot of people fail to mention but I believe it is a very important one.

Meal prep has a lot of incredible benefits – It saves you time and money, makes you well aware of what you eat, weight loss, less worry about food and so on.

All of those are valid reasons to begin meal prepping but the only one that matters is the specific reason that YOU chose to do so.

What matters to someone else may not be necessarily applicable to you.

You may not be trying to lose weight but just want to eat healthier and save some money. This means your approach may be completely different from someone who’s on a weight loss plan.

You can rewrite the script a hundred other ways and you’ll see not all goals are the same.

The point is you need to be aware of your own situation and what your ultimate goal is then use that as your motivating factor for a successful weekly meal prep.

2 - Start Small

Meal prep isn’t a race and you certainly aren’t (or at least shouldn’t be) trying to impress someone else either.

Ease your way into it and allow yourself time to adjust to the changes.

Maybe begin with one meal or one day at a time then gradually work your way up.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with starting small.

3 - Set Enough Time Aside

Raise your hand if you’ve ever started a 30 minute project that turned out to be 2 hours long.

It never fails.

Allow yourself ample time for your meal prep.

Pick a day and/or time and reserve that particular slot for meal prepping only.

Whether it’s a Sunday or an entire weekend or whatever day works for you, pick a time, schedule it and try to stick to it as much as possible.

Also avoid trying to juggle other tasks while you’re preparing your meals.

4 - Take Inventory On Your Pantry First

Before you go grocery shopping take a look at what you’ve currently got at home.

There are 2 main reasons for that:

  • It gives you an overall idea of the kinds of foods you like.
  • It prevents you from buying the same things you already have.

All of that saves you time, money, hassle, etc.

5 - Pick Your Go-Tos

We all have that one meal that we seem to always order everytime we dine out. It’s your “go-to” meal.

Well the principle of this step is similar to that.

As you get the hang of things and prepare meal after meal you’ll eventually find out there’s a particular meal that’s your favorite.

It’s usually one that tastes really good, is very easy to make and requires little to no effort.

Whatever the case may be, you should have a few go-to meals that you can almost instantly make when you’re on the go.

This also includes your preferred cooking method whether it’s a microwave, instant pot, grill, etc.

6 - Get the Appropriate Meal Prep Containers

Sounds like a no-brainer but you’d be surprised at how easy it is to ignore this step or ask whether it even matters.

Long story short, it matters a lot!

The last thing you need is cooking up a batch of meals only to find that they got bad a couple of days later because you chose to leave it in the pot or tray. (I learned the hard way)

Containers are an essential part of your meal prep because none of it matters if you can’t store or carry the food around properly.

P.S. The best meal prep strategy is the one that works for you.

I’m sure it is floating around somewhere on this page but just in case you haven’t had the opportunity to, I do have a short PDF guide with some excellent tips about Meal Prep for Busy people.

Favorite Healthy Meal Prep Ideas for the Week

I started learning more about meal prep primarily because of my work schedule.

There’s only so much cafeteria food you can eat  and the cost of ordering out was adding up.

As I continue to learn about meal prep and healthy diets in general, the more I appreciate it.

I’ll also be the first to admit I’m still far from perfect.

I have my good weeks and bad ones but I understand it’s all part of the process of building good (healthier) habits.

Click here for a more complete guide on getting started with healthy meal prep and plenty more tips to help make you successful at it.

When I compiled this list, I did my best to keep your possible needs and routine in mind because I’m sure you too might be going through the same thing with your busy schedule.

For that reason all the recipes I found had to meet the following criteria:

  1. Easy to make (preferably few ingredients, easy to prep & assemble)
  2. Quick to make (ideally 30 minutes or less total time. I did include a couple over 30 mins)
  3. Tasty (meal prep doesn’t mean bland food)
  4. Healthy of course

With that in mind here are 60 healthy meal prep ideas for the week grouped into breakfast, lunch, dinner and healthy snacks.
